Police Release Photo of Person of Interest in Sexual Assault at GOP Fair Booth

The Minnesota State Fair Police Department has released a photo of a woman wanted in connection to the sexual assault of a Republican volunteer at the GOP’s state fair booth.

Police told Fox 9 that the woman (pictured in tweet below) may have been involved in the incident.

The assault occurred late in the evening during the first Friday of the fair while Republican staffers were closing down their booth. A police spokeswoman said the staffer was “groped over the clothes” after a “discussion about politics.” Both the victim and suspect were female, as The Minnesota Sun reported.

Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan sent an email to party leaders to express her “sadness and disappointment.”

She later released the following statement to the media:

On Friday night at the ‘Great Minnesota Get Together’ one of our MN GOP volunteers was sexually assaulted while volunteering in our booth. Additionally, the staff, along with myself, were harassed and threatened by Democrats; and resulted in a 9-1-1 call for our own safety and security at the end of the night. There is no place for violence in our society, let alone at one’s place of employment, and the Republican Party of Minnesota has a zero tolerance policy for such behavior.

“It is disconcerting and scary that Democrats in our state feel emboldened and justified to act in such a physically aggressive manner – and purposefully cause physical and emotional harm to other people. Shame on the Democratic Party for fostering this type of behavior, at what is supposed to be a celebratory and positive event.

“We can only hope that this is not indicative of what our Republican volunteers, candidates, activists and leaders will face as we head into the 2020 elections. We are supposed to be salt of the earth, genuine folk here in Minnesota.

“I call on MN DFL Chairman, Ken Martin, to denounce these acts immediately and invoke a communication across his organization that condemns sexual assault, harassment and the verbal abuse that happened tonight at the Minnesota State Fair.
