Google Debuts ‘Bard,’ an AI Competitor to ChatGPT

by Ben Whedon

Big Tech giant Google on Monday announced Bard, the company’s new artificial intelligence product, in a bid to compete with ChatGPT.

“We’ve been working on an experimental conversational AI service, powered by LaMDA, that we’re calling Bard,” reads a blog post from the company. “And today, we’re taking another step forward by opening it up to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.”

Bard operates on the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) and will initially secure release using the “lightweight” version that requires less computing power.

“Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses,” the company claims.

The product could potentially serve as a direct competitor to ChatGPT, which has recently made headlines both for its capabilities and alleged political biases.
