Commentary: The ‘Willy Horton Moment’ in the Pennsylvania Senate Race

When Muslim terrorist Edward Archer shot Philadelphia Police Officer Jesse Hartnett, and Democratic Mayor James Kenny said the attack had “nothing to do with being a Muslim or following the Islamic faith” we wrote in our article Jim Kenny: Having A Mayor Like This Could Get You Killed that we had originally intended to title the article “Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenny is an Idiot,” but that that was all too obvious from Kinney’s news conference.

But Kinney’s policy of making Philadelphia an illegal and extra-constitutional “sanctuary city” and his subsequent behavior has now given us an opportunity to resurrect the title.

When the Trump administration tried to crack down on sanctuary cities Philadelphia and other cities sued. Federal Judge Michael Baylson of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania subsequently ruled that President Donald Trump cannot cut off grants to Philadelphia over the way they handle illegal immigrants.

Baylson, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote that Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ “public statements… asserting that immigrants commit more crimes than native-born citizens, are inaccurate as applied to Philadelphia, and do not justify the imposition of these… conditions.”

A member of Mayor Kenney’s staff taped the Democrat dancing with his chief of staff in celebration of a court ruling in favor of the city and against the Trump administration’s efforts to force so-called sanctuary cities to follow the law.

You can watch Kenney’s idiotic victory dance through this link.

But while Kenney danced, his policies had tragic and life altering consequences for one of Philadelphia’s youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

The UK’s Daily Mail reports that a previously deported illegal immigrant from Honduras raped a little girl in Philadelphia after being let loose by Philadelphia police instead of being handed over to ICE.

Juan Ramon Vasquez, also known as Ramon Aguirre-Ochoa, was first deported from the US in 2009.

As the Daily Mail’s Jennifer Smith reported, in 2014, he was arrested for domestic abuse and in 2015, was released from custody by the Philadelphia Police Department.

ICE requested to be notified when he was let go in order to deport him but because Philadelphia is a sanctuary city, the department did not comply with their request and Vasquez resumed his life as an illegal immigrant.

In 2016, he was arrested again on child rape charges.  Last year, he was jailed on that charge for between eight and 20 years.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to reentering the country illegally after his 2009 deportation. The conviction will add a maximum of two years to his sentence.

US Attorney William M McSwain condemned Philadelphia’s decision to let him go in 2015, reports Smith.

“The facts of this case highlight the danger posed by the City of Philadelphia’s decision to disregard ICE detainers and release previously deported aliens from local custody.

“Those of us in the law enforcement business should be doing everything in our power to protect vulnerable children from predators like Vasquez.

“Instead, this defendant received a free pass from the City of Philadelphia and its Department of Prisons, headed straight back into our community, and committed a heinous crime he never would have had the chance to commit had the City of Philadelphia complied with the ICE detainer,” said McSwain.

As our friend Paul Mirengoff of PowerLine Blog observed, “Democrats are driven by their long-term electoral strategy — maximize the number of illegal immigrants, enable most of them to become citizens (or otherwise vote), and ride their votes to electoral victories in order to make America a ‘democratic socialist’ country. This strategy overrides whatever slight concern these politicians might have for public safety.”

However, the Democrats’ electoral strategy may be backfiring big time.

Republican Senate candidate Rep. Lou Barletta has come out strongly against sanctuary cities, and the case of rapist Juan Ramon Vasquez may provide the campaign with a defining moment if Barletta will hit it hard enough.

Who else but a liberal Democrat like Kenny or Casey would dance while little girls are raped by illegal aliens? Our suggestion is that Congressman Barletta take this as the “Willy Horton moment” in the campaign and pound Senator Casey and other Democrats for their support of sanctuary cities and the rapes, murders, drugs and other disastrous effects they have on the citizens who must suffer under their misrule.
