Music Spotlight: Sweet Tea Trio

When I interviewed Sweet Tea Trio earlier this year, I knew they had a new EP in the works, but they were unsure of the release date. So I waited until Sugar Rush was released to share their story.

Alabama natives Victoria Camp, Kate Falcon, and Charity Bowden make up an all-female harmony group called Sweet Tea Trio. They met through a mutual vocal coach in Alabama.

The original Sweet Tea Trio started in 2013 where fresh songs like “Huntin’ Is Good” and “Needle in a Haystack” drove their popularity. However in

However in 2019, one of the founding members left the group and the same vocal coach recommended Bowden to them.

States Falcon, “It was kind of this perfect God moment where you have to take a couple of steps back to realize what God is telling you. Charity stepped into the role as 1/3 of the band with so much excitement and passion and she’s been the biggest blessing to this group. She was the missing puzzle piece for sure.”

Each member of Sweet Tea Trio grew up with different influences.

Camp listened to rock bands like Fleetwood Mac along with outlaw country greats like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Merle Haggard.

Bowden prefers classic country legends like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Kitty Wells. ”The older the better,” she quips.

Falcon grew up listening to the ladies of the nineties and is influenced by the likes of Martina McBride and Faith Hill and also her favorite rock band of all time, Journey.

With such diverse musical interests, the three keep their lyrics honest and their music full of roots and authenticity.

Their current EP, Sugar Rush, was produced by Kid Rock (Robert Ritchie). They signed a management contract with his touring company along with another company called Vector Management.

Camp explains, “What Bob (Kid Rock) is to us is a dear friend, one of our biggest supporters, and a wonderful person. He’s been there through thick and thin.”

He even introduced their promo video.

Kid Rock explains, “In my opinion [Sweet Tea Trio] picks up where the Dixie Chicks and Pistol Annies meet. They are 100% country and I look forward to sharing my 30 years in this business to get them an honest shot at the big time.“

With songs like “Love, Mama,” “SPF50,” and “All Hat, No Cattle” this new edition of Sweet Tea Trio melds the harmonies of a youthful Chicks’ band with the lovable, feistiness of Pistol Annies that is unique and familiar all at the same time. They remind us why country music is the most beloved genre out there.

Performing all over the country in venues like arenas, theaters, and outdoor music festivals, the three have a love and passion for traveling together and meeting their fans. Together, their music has no limit.
