Catholic Civil Rights Group Begins Radio Campaign Urging Boycott of Los Angeles Dodgers ‘Pride Night’ for Honoring Anti-Catholic Hate Group

The Catholic League began its anticipated radio campaign Tuesday that urges listeners in the Los Angeles area not to attend the Dodgers’ June 16 “Pride Night” game, during which the club is scheduled to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a self-described group of “queer and trans nuns” that puts on exhibitions that ridicule the Catholic faith and religious women, and desecrate Jesus Christ with sexual imagery.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, wrote in his column Tuesday:

Starting today, for five consecutive days, we are running 25 radio ads (30 seconds each) on KABC asking listeners not to attend the June 16 “Pride Night” Dodgers game that features the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.” KABC is the ABC affiliate that covers Los Angeles and the Southern California area.

Donohue explained that “due to copyright laws,” his organization is “prohibited from mentioning the Dodgers, or Dodger Stadium, per se,” in the ads.

“Everyone in the huge listening area will understand what the selected euphemisms mean (the stadium is also known as Chavez Ravine),” he added.

The ad blitz comes as California Democrats decided to honor the “sisters” who embrace anti-Catholic bigotry under the guise of promoting LGBTQ rights.

On Monday, Michael Williams, a member of the group who calls himself “Sister Roma,” attended the LGBTQ recognition ceremony hosted by the California State Senate.

The California Globe reported the event offered little about the “accomplishments” of the honorees, and turned into another venue for showcasing the alleged victimization of LGBTQ people at the hands of “right-wing extremists.”

The Globe noted State Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) said “rising homophobia and transphobia coincides with antisemitism and white supremacy.”

“Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) again blamed ‘right wing extremists’ and ‘bigoted extremists’ for tearing down Target displays [over the girls bathing suits for trans kids with a “tuck-friendly” pouch for male genitalia],” the Globe also observed.

“Kicking off our Capitol Pride celebration with the amazing Sister Roma & other Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” Wiener tweeted. “We’re honoring Sister Roma & other badass LGBTQ community leaders from around California.”

Below is the text of the Catholic League’s ad which is read by a woman selected by KABC, Donohue noted:

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the nation’s largest Catholic civil rights organization, is asking Catholics not to attend the game at the Ravine on June 16. That is when an anti-Catholic group, the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” will be given an award.

We are not asking Catholics to boycott all games. Just this one. By doing so, we will send an unmistakable message that bigotry against Catholics should not be tolerated.

If attendance dips on June 16, the entire league will take note. Please boycott this game.

The Dodgers’ organization disinvited the “sisters” when announcing they would be honored at their game night event met with a backlash from Christians nationwide. The club ultimately caved to pressure from LGBTQ activists, apologizing to and reinviting the incendiary group.
