Biden ‘Intends’ to Run Again in 2024, White House Says

by Ben Whedon

President Joe Biden plans to seek reelection in 2024, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.

“The president has said this himself he intends to run in 2024,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. Rev. Al Sharpton prompted discussion of the subject after claiming Biden told him, “I’m going to do it again,” in reference to his pursuit of a 2024 presidential run, according to The Hill.

Biden has not yet officially announced his campaign, and as recently as last month, cast uncertainty about the prospect of him seeking reelection, saying it was “much too early” to announce a bid.

Though the president has privately indicated he will seek reelection and the administration has publicly espoused the same position, other prominent left-wing figures have publicly mulled presidential campaigns of their own. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders rank among the top alternative candidates should Biden opt against running again.

On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump has all but formally announced his intent to run again and faces few potential challengers from within his party. Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who lost her primary to a Trump-backed challenger, has vowed to leave the GOP should he again secure the party’s presidential nomination.
