Republicans are once again calling for Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN-05) removal from the House Foreign Affairs Committee after video leaked of her describing the 9/11 terror attacks as “some people did something.”
Omar’s remarks came during her appearance at the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR) March fundraiser in Los Angeles.
“I say raise hell. Make people uncomfortable, because here’s the truth: for far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen,” Omar said during her keynote address, according to video obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Frankly, I’m tired of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it,” she continued. “CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.”
Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan said she was “horrified” that the comments “came from a member of Congress.”
“This is a day that we will never forget. When thousands of innocent men, women, and children lost their lives due to a terrorist attack. A day when the lives of all Americans were changed forever. Yet, Omar minimized this day and the action of terrorists as a day ‘some people did something,’” Carnahan said.
She went on to call for Omar’s immediate removal from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
“When will the Minnesota DFL and the national Democrats denounce Omar and say enough is enough? She must be removed immediately from her committee assignment on Foreign Affairs and let’s hope Minneapolis voters will be smart enough to send her packing in 2020,” Carnahan continued.
National GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said that when “Ilhan Omar isn’t being anti-Semitic, she’s sympathizing with terrorists.”
“In 2016, Omar asked a judge for ‘compassion’ while sentencing an ISIS recruit. Now she’s downplaying the 9/11 terrorist attack. She has no business serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee,” McDaniel said.
“First member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as ‘some people who did something.’ Unbelievable,” Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-02) wrote on Twitter.
