The 30-minute interview heavily focused on the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, as Hungary shares an 85-mile border with Ukraine.
When Carlson asked what would happen if the West “succeeded in killing Putin,” Orbán warned that Russia would “never give up” on the war, saying, “They will keep their country together and defend it.”
The prime minister added that if the goal of the U.S. State Department is to kill the Russian president, it would be a “mistake” that is “more than dangerous.”
“To sit in Washington, safe in the United States is a different feeling than to sit here in Budapest. Ukraine is next door country – so what’s going on there could have an immediate impact in 24 hours here in Hungary and so on,” Orbán explained.
The prime minister went on to link the immediate impact of the 1980s in Ukraine’s Chornobyl disaster on Hungary to the current war, adding, “If there is an escalation in Ukraine, that could have an impact on us immediately.”
The prime minister warned that if any Western nation ordered boots on the ground in Ukraine, that would mean a “direct war between the West and Russia.”
“We are in a third world war immediately,” Orban said.
As of press time, the latest installment of Carlson’s video podcast, posted at 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on Tuesday, had over 9 million views. The Hungarian subtitled version of the same interview had over 416,400 views.
The 20 episodes posted by @TuckerCarlson have been seen almost 1 billion times on Twitter / X.
