Illegal Alien Convicted in Minneapolis Carjacking Had Lengthy Criminal Record

An illegal alien with a long prior rap sheet that includes violent crimes has once again been sentenced to prison time.

Abdulhakim Omar Erbob, 27, attempted to carjack a man in St. Paul last year, according to Pioneer Press. He beat the man who he tried to carjack when the man began to fight back, and was subsequently charged with attempted first-degree aggravated robbery.

For that crime, he has been sentenced to 45 months – nearly four years – in a Minnesota prison after cutting a plea deal with prosecutors. When he learned that his plea deal included deportation back to his native Somalia, Erbob attempted to back out of the deal. His attempt was denied by prosecutors.

“I just want to say at the time of the offense, I was under the influence and not aware,” Erbob reportedly told the judge. “I’m not a citizen. I do not want to get deported. I have no family back home. I’ve been here since I was about 2 years old.”

But the 2021 carjacking was not the first time that Erbob had trouble with the law in the United States.

His long criminal history “includes convictions for robbery, giving police a false name, thefts, trespassing and, in 2013, a conviction for first-degree aggravated robbery for which he was sentenced to 57 months in prison.”

Despite his first sentencing, he was not deported. Instead, he was released back onto the streets, and subsequently committed a crime similar to the one that landed him in prison in the first place.

Asked why Erbob was not deported after any of his prior arrests or convictions, Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office did not return a comment request.

According to the report, the victim of Erbob’s attempted carjacking was driving to pick up a friend on the night of the attack. Erbob forced his way into the vehicle, where the victim was beaten by the convicted felon. When police arrived, they found Erbob in the passenger’s seat of the victim’s car, smelling of alcohol.
