A sheriff has warned that gangs of illegal aliens from Central and South America, already in the country after taking advantage of the open border and lack of immigration restriction, are now targeting luxury homes for burglaries and other crimes.
As the New York Post reports, Sheriff Michael Bouchard of Oakland County, Michigan warned that criminal gangs from “south of the border” have begun stealing “hundreds and hundreds of thousand of dollars” worth of property from high-value houses.
“These are transnational gangs that are involved in this that come from South America, looking to do burglaries and violate our communities, not just in Oakland County but across America,” said Bouchard (pictured above). The sheriff noted that such gangs come from many Latin American countries, including Venezuela, Columbia, Chile, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, and Bolivia.
“These people are going after jewelry, high-end purses and watches, currency and safes,” Bouchard added. “They typically hit homes from 5 to 9 p.m. They seem to want houses where nobody’s home, and they usually come in through windows in the back.”
Sheriff Bouchard encouraged wealthy homeowners to invest in security systems and other countermeasures to prevent possible strings of burglaries. He also said that his office has been coordinating with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to combat such crimes.
Bouchard’s warnings reflect just one of many communities that has been devastated by the mass migration crisis, with the Biden Administration leaving the southern border almost completely unguarded and allowing all illegals to enter the country freely.
It has reached a point that now, even prominent Democrats are calling on the Biden White House to crack down on immigration. New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.), whose state has become especially overrun with illegals, demanded “a limit on who can come across’’ the border.
“It is too open right now,’’ said Hochul during an interview with CBS. “Congress has to put more controls at the border. Talk about eliminating positions for Border Patrol, well, we actually need to double or quadruple those numbers.”
