Minnesota Journalist Says Someone Should Have Murdered Roger Ailes Before He Had a Chance to Start Fox News

A Minnesota-based journalist said Wednesday that someone should have murdered Roger Ailes, who died in 2017, before he had the opportunity to launch Fox News.

Adam Platt, the executive editor of Twin Cities Business magazine, made the comments on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

“Hot take: If some enterprising lefty had taken Roger Ailes out with a high-powered weapon about 20 years ago this country would not be 10 percent as f’d as it is today,” Platt wrote.

He deleted the tweet later Wednesday afternoon after freelance journalist John Gilmore contacted the publication for comment.

Platt’s remarks were made shortly before Hennepin County announced that a Richfield man was charged with felony assault for punching a Trump supporter outside of the president’s recent rally in Minneapolis. Police used footage posted online by a news outlet to identify the suspect and reported that the victim “received several stitches at the hospital as a result of the punch.”

The Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service released its Battleground Civility Poll Wednesday, which found that a majority of Americans believe political, racial, and class divisions are worsening.

The poll found that 67 percent of Americans believe that the nation is “two-thirds of the way to the edge of a civil war.” Another 84 percent said they believe that “behavior that used to be seen as unacceptable is now accepted as normal behavior.”

“Restoring a higher level of civility to our politics will take a dedicated and courageous group of Republicans, Democrats, and members of the media to reject the easy tactics of uncivil rhetoric that paints opponents as enemies,” Ed Goeas, who works with the Terrance Group, said in a press release.
