Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey accused Kansas City on Thursday of doxxing one of its NFL players over religious comments he made at a college over the weekend, where he criticized President Joe Biden for being a pro-abortion Catholic.
The city of Kansas City, which is primarily in Missouri, posted a since-deleted “reminder” that Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker lives in Lee Summit on Wednesday, but replaced it with an apology for the “error.” The city account did not include a physical address in the original post.
Butker (pictured above) had lambasted Biden on Saturday for being a “proud Catholic” while still supporting abortion rights, euthanasia, and similar issues.
Bailey slammed the attack in a post to X, and vowed to hold the city accountable for the posts through legal action.
“My office is demanding accountability after @KansasCity doxxed @buttkicker7 last night for daring to express his religious beliefs,” Bailey wrote in the post. “I will enforce the Missouri Human Rights Act to ensure Missourians are not targeted for their free exercise of religion. Stay tuned.”
The condemnation was echoed by Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, who said the post was “clearly inappropriate for a public account.”
“The City has correctly apologized for the error, will review account access, and ensure nothing like it is shared in the future from public channels,” Lucas said, per the Hill.
Butker spoke at a private Catholic university graduation over the weekend as the keynote speaker, where he criticized the president for being a “bad leader” by supporting abortion access, while still claiming to be Catholic.
“The bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, [in vitro fertilization], surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for the degenerate cultural values and media all stem from pervasiveness of disorder,” Butker said. “Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally.”
Biden has maintained that as a Catholic, he does not personally like abortion, but still supports legal access to it as a Democratic leader. He also differs from the Catholic Church’s teaching when it comes to LGBTQ issues.
