Native American Owned Construction Business Equipment Vandalized to ‘Support Native Americans’

A Native American man who owns a construction company, Gordon Construction, spoke out against those who destroyed his equipment and claimed to speak for Native Americans. Matt Gordon, a Native American, owns one of the construction companies contracted to help finish the Line 3 project, a pipeline carrying oil from Canada into the United States.

His construction equipment was vandalized by Line 3 protesters, costing him hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to Fox News. He also shared with Fox News that it took three days to clean up the mess that the protesters had left behind.

Gordon said in an interview with Fox News that, “It’s very hypocritical to travel somewhere to protest oil when you’re using…gas and diesel-powered vehicles. Then when you do get there, you end up destroying equipment, leaving debris and garbage all over, most of them plastic products from water bottles and packaging.”

Those claiming to speak for Native Americans by opposing the Line 3 construction destroyed the construction equipment of a Native American business owner, who is a member of the White Earth Nation tribe.

As reported on The Minnesota Sun, earlier this month over 250 protesters were arrested at the Line 3 protests. The Northern Lights Task Force, who handled the situation, said in an official statement that, “Many protesters did not abide by the law and engaged in actions that forced the hand of law enforcement and dispersal orders were given.”

June 5 through June 8 was the “Treaty People Gathering” where activists from around the country gathered to oppose the Line 3 project. The protest garnered national attention with activists coming from as far as New Hampshire.
