Police Back GOP Challenger Over Angie Craig in Minnesota’s Second District

Republican congressional candidate Tyler Kistner has been endorsed by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, the largest police organization in the state.

The MPPOA endorsed Kistner, a Marine veteran, in his run for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District against Rep. Angie Craig.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, an organization that represents over 10,000 public safety professionals across the state of Minnesota. As your Congressman, I will always have the back of our law enforcement community and first responders, and I will ensure they have the resources needed to keep our families safe,” Kistner said in a statement.

Kistner has frequently spoken about supporting law enforcement during his campaign, and has repeatedly called out Craig, whom he says supports defunding the police.

“Law enforcement knows who they can trust, and it’s not Angie Craig,” Kistner said.

Kistner said that he believes new national training standards for police could help “fix some of the issues that some police departments are having,” according to the Belle Plaine Herald.

“The contrast in the race couldn’t be more clear. Congresswoman Angie Craig stood with Ilhan Omar and voted to eliminate $600 million in federal funding for law enforcement assistance programs. Congresswoman Craig’s actions and words are very clear: she quite literally supports defunding the police,” he said.

President Donald Trump narrowly won the Second District in 2016 but Congressman Jason Lewis, who’s now running for Senate, was unseated by Craig in 2018 after his first term.
