A new study shows that employees who are still working remotely are actively fleeing Democrat-run cities in the thousands.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, the data from American Community Survey showed that a number of the largest cities in the country, all controlled by Democrats, continue to be the hardest-hit by an ongoing exodus of remote workers. The most severe net migration loss was in New York City, which lost approximately 116,000 remote employees. Los Angeles lost 53,000, while San Francisco saw an exodus of 32,000, and at least 29,000 left Chicago.
A number of factors have contributed to this pattern of employees leaving the most liberal cities, including rising costs of living, high taxes, and increasing crime rates due to liberal soft-on-crime policies. With a number of companies and various workplaces realizing that the remote work model could remain in effect even after the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic ended, many employees have opted for moving to safer and more affordable locations as they continue their remote work.
New York City in particular has seen an increase in violent crime amid ongoing bail reform efforts, with 132 felony assaults in the city’s subway system in the first quarter of 2023 alone. Chicago has also suffered from a rise in crime, with the city’s homicide rate rising by 40 percent since 2019. San Francisco saw a similar 40 percent increase in homicides from 2020 to 2022.
All three cities, along with many others, have been plagued by the rise of far-left prosecutors and district attorneys who are deliberately refusing to prosecute violent crime. In Chicago, DA Kim Foxx has overseen a 27 percent decrease in criminal convictions, as well as a staggering 54 percent increase in dismissed cases. In New York, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has ignored actual crimes in favor of pursuing a politically-motivated prosecution of President Donald Trump. And the crime crisis in San Francisco reached such high levels that voters finally revolted in 2022, expelling DA Chesa Boudin from office in a landslide upset.
These three prosecutors were among the many progressive candidates funded by far-left billionaire George Soros, in a deliberate effort to undermine the United States from within by weakening enforcement of basic laws and refusing to target dangerous criminals.
