Border Patrol Union Chief Open to Amnesty for ‘Dreamers’ as Senators Prep Immigration Bill

The Border Patrol union president said he will support an immigration bill that includes amnesty for “Dreamers” if it also addresses border security in a Friday statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Reports have been circulating that ahead of the release of a bipartisan immigration bill’s text, National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd agreed to it as a “mass amnesty” plan. Sens. Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina, and Kyrsten Sinema, an independent from Arizona, are discussing a proposal that would grant citizenship for illegal immigrants enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, according to Fox News, citing sources familiar.

If the bill seeks to end the border crisis, end the mass release of illegal immigrants and keep agents in the force and in the field without granting “mass amnesty,” Judd told the DCNF that he’ll support it.

“If there is a bipartisan bill that will provide the border security measures necessary to end this crisis; put agents in the field to go after the flow of dangerous drugs that kill so many of our citizens; ends the main magnet catch-and-release once and for all; retains our agents, and provides for the infrastructure necessary in exchange for legalization of DACA recipients who already have a status, then yes, I will support,” Judd said.

DACA was created during the Obama administration to provide opportunities for illegal immigrants who were brought to the country as children.

“Democrats claim to care about border security and the plight of Dreamers. let them PROVE it by giving us the law necessary to end the crisis and that will provide a pathway for DACA recipients,” Judd said.

Other parts of the bipartisan plan are expected to include keeping Title 42, a public health order used to turn away millions of illegal migrants to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, according to Fox News. It would also provide an increase in pay for border agents and add personnel to the force.

“We are not even considering a massive amnesty compromise,” Judd said. “We will never agree to amnesty for adults who violated our laws by crossing the border illegally.”

“We do not have text of a bill to support or not support at this point,” Judd said. “I am waiting to see text.”
