Vivek Ramaswamy Unveils Strategy on How to Declare Economic Independence from Communist China

NEW ALBANY, Ohio – Ohio native entrepreneur and Republican candidate for President of the United States Vivek Ramaswamy spoke to a passionate group of campaign supporters Thursday about how the nation can declare economic independence from communist China.

People packed into the one-hour event at the Axium Plastics facility to hear Ramaswamy’s strategy for “a clear and pragmatic vision for how Americans can actually and finally declare economic freedom from China while advancing American prosperity at home.”

According to Ramaswamy, America depends on its adversary, China, for its modern way of life. To declare independence from them, Americans need to “narrowly focus” on four main topics.

Ramaswamy said that Americans needed to declare independence from the climate change agenda at home.

According to the presidential candidate, the United States needs to “unshackle” itself from China to drill, frack, burn coal, and release nuclear energy in the United States.

“The climate change agenda is a hoax because it has nothing to do with the climate and everything to do with global equity. Specifically letting China catch up to the United States economically,” Ramaswamy said.

Ramaswamy also said the U.S. needs to achieve semiconductor independence from Taiwan.

Ramaswamy said he opposes the Biden administration’s CHIPS Act and called it the “Green New Deal masquerading in chips clothes.”

“For national security reasons, it’s important that we have a narrow focus on bringing back semiconductor production to the U.S. and focus on workforce training in America to fill the needs we actually have in the United States,” Ramaswamy said.

Ramaswamy noted it’s important to end semiconductor reliance on China and instead focus on a trade-friendly approach with allies such as Japan and South Korea.

“The sooner we end this the better for us and the way it starts is semiconductor independence starting here for our national security while opening trade and embracing competition with our allies. I believe in 5 to 10 years it is possible that the United States will lead the world in our own production of semiconductors if we truly believe in American exceptionalism,” Ramaswamy said.

According to Ramaswamy, it’s also important to decouple the U.S. defense-industrial base from China and commit to fortifying homeland defenses, with a minimum of 4 percent of U.S. gross domestic product on military spending through 2032.

“Who is our top adversary? It’s communist China. The first thing communist China is going to do in a scenario if we end up in a conflict with China is to turn off our defense industrial base. Our greatest adversary is also our greatest supplier of the very military equipment we use to deter that adversary,” Ramaswamy said.

Furthermore, the presidential candidate said the U.S. needs to diversify away from Chinese-controlled pharmaceutical supply chains to reduce the risk of mass casualty in the future.

Ramaswamy detailed that over 70 percent of America’s supply of key pharmaceutical ingredients comes from China, and it’s crucial to partner with allies such as India, Israel, Brazil, and other East Asian countries to ensure these medications are safe for American consumers.

“Mark my words. If we are in a conflict situation with China, the same country that unleashed hell on the world with a man-made virus, who is sending synthetic components of fentanyl to Mexican cartels, will be the same country that could lace our legal pharmacy supply chain with lethal fentanyl,” Ramaswamy said.

According to Ramaswamy, the United States needs to get serious about being able to cut the cord from China and these are the steps he will take as President of the United States to get there.

“This is our moment to do it. If we have the courage,” Ramaswamy said.
