Music Spotlight: Molly Lovette

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Molly Lovette is from a tight-knit Irish family who grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Deep-rooted in tradition and faith, Molly attended Catholic grade school and then an all-girls Catholic High School – the same one that her grandmother, her mother, her five cousins, and her younger sister all attended.

She stated that she was “born into music.” Her dad is a coach, and she states that music and sports were their “two loves.”

Lovette’s parents took the family to a lot of local live music and she saw Tim McGraw and Faith Hill when she was five years old. They put her in piano lessons early and she loved to perform. She loved singing into the air vents because she could hear the echo of her voice.

“I was constantly singing, and my parents supported and encouraged that,” she remembered.

She recalled writing songs and singing them in local talent shows.

Even still, the sports-minded youth thought that basketball would be her ticket to college and beyond. Her dad was her coach and it was special to be able to share that with him.

However, when she was 14 years old, Lovette fell in a basketball game. It was random and no one thought much of it but after a couple of weeks, her knee was still bothering her.

She finally went to the doctor and got X-rays. Above her knee, they found an eight-inch tumor in her femur. They had biopsies and surgery. Luckily, it was not cancer, but it still had to be removed which led to 11 months of recovery.

“At that point, I loved music, but basketball was my life.” She had planned to be a coach like her father.

It was her dad who taught the teen to play guitar when she was unable to do much else. She started writing a bunch of songs and fell back in love with music.

“It was at that moment when I realized that music was what I really wanted to do,” she explained.

Although she played one more season in high school, he heart wasn’t in it and she told her parents that she wanted to pursue music full-time.

Upon graduation, she attended college for a year because “that’s what people do.” During that year, she put out music for the first time. She was a regular at the campus bars and came back home over Christmas break where she played her first full-band show.

After playing the full-band show, she was like, “I don’t want to go back to school.” She had another tough conversation with her parents in 2019 where she told them that she wanted to move to Nashville and make music her career.

In the fall of 2019, she played around the St. Louis area and saved money for her move to Nashville. Just as she was getting ready to leave, the pandemic hit and she was forced to remain in Missouri a bit longer. However, the songstress wouldn’t be held down and in September of 2020, she moved to Nashville anyway.

“I was a little stir-crazy living at home and I was like, ‘I gotta’ go.’”

Once she got here, she was introduced to “co-writing.” Initially, she was apprehensive about sharing her feelings and thoughts with other people but now she loves to write with other songwriters, “which is my favorite thing in the world.”

She continued, “It’s so cool, stepping into a room, bringing ideas, being able to collaborate with other peoples’ ideas.”

A song she put out two years ago is “One Woman Show” which talks about doing a show all for herself. It was a bit autobiographical as it was released during the pandemic.

To date, her most streamed song is “Bad For You” where she tells an ex that she feels bad for him.

“I wrote that song back in high school by myself. I literally recorded it in my friend’s house on the garage band app. I want to re-record it soon.”

The upbeat “Hey Hey” is about having a good time with her girlfriends on the weekend. All is fine until he walks in.

Lovette’s song “Lovin’ You” is not the romantic love song you think it will be. With lyrics like Lovin’ you was a shot of whiskey poured straight from hell/ Burned from the first taste now I can tell/ It ain’t worth feelin’ like a fool/ If I could hit rewind I’d undo lovin’ you, it talks about the regrets of loving the wrong person.

Now the country breakout artist is turning the tables with her fierce and sassy new single “Better Than You.” This song creates a new era for Lovette following the success of her previous release “Birthday Hangover,” a relatable kind of party song that you would expect to come out of the Nashville music scene.

With “Better Than You” Lovette takes her personal story of a situation and creates a powerfully bold anthem filled with intense emotion that will help you move on and realize that you are better off without that someone. Her newest single will have you feeling on top of the world while being unapologetically content and fiercely confident.

Lovette is taking the world by storm and winning the hearts of genuine country fans everywhere. She received recognition and was honored from her home state of Missouri, on behalf of Governor Michael L. Parson, for her endless dedication to her craft and for being a role model to her fans.

Besides playing regularly in venues near her hometown of St. Louis, Lovette is a regular performer in Nashville at the AC Hotel, the Cambria Hotel, and the Renaissance Hotel.

The twenty-three-year-old realizes that music is a business that requires work to back it up. She has a game plan and is sticking to it. And while she loves playing the acoustic sets in Nashville, touring with her band will always be her favorite.

Lovette hopes her music will embody the beauty, power, and grace she finds in the artists who have inspired her most; Taylor Swift, Maren Morris, and Carrie Underwood.

Be sure to follow her tour schedule on her website to keep up with all the places she will be playing. You can also follow her on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and all streaming platforms.
