National Archives to Grant Comer Access to 1,700 Biden Emails

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is set to provide House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) with access to over 1,700 emails from Joe Biden’s vice presidency, in the midst of an ongoing impeachment inquiry against him.

According to the Daily Caller, NARA will provide Comer and the committee with 62,610 total pages of records, which includes 1,799 emails and attachments. The emails are all from Biden’s tenure as Vice President, and are all relevant to Hunter Biden and his business relationship with Burisma Holdings, the Ukrainian energy firm at the heart of the corruption accusations against the Bidens. The agency announced its intentions to hand over the documents in a letter to Comer on Monday.

Back in August, Comer wrote a letter to NARA demanding that he be given “unrestricted special access” to all email communications between then-Vice President Biden and his son. The request included emails sent by Biden’s pseudonymous email accounts, which used fake names like Robert Peters and JRB Ware. Comer followed up on this request in September with another letter to NARA, demanding additional communications between Biden’s vice presidential staff and Hunter Biden’s former business partners, as archived emails from December 2015 appeared to show collusion between former Biden business partner Eric Schwerin and Joe Biden’s staff regarding Burisma.

NARA had previously said in October that it possesses up to 82,000 records related to Biden’s fake email addresses. The agency on Monday said that the committee will be given access to all of Biden’s pseudonymous email communications involving Hunter, Schwerin, and Devon Archer, another former business associate who has since testified against the Bidens.

Hunter, who had no prior experience in the energy sector, was given a job on Burisma’s board during his father’s vice presidential tenure, where he was paid up to $83,333 per month for a job with little to no responsibilities. When Burisma came under investigation by Ukraine’s then-Prosecutor General, Viktor Shokin, due to accusations of corruption, Biden publicly used his position as Vice President to strong-arm then-President Petro Poroshenko into firing Shokin, threatening to withhold $1 billion in American aid unless Poroshenko did so.

“The White House is trying to make an appearance of cooperation after two brave IRS whistleblowers provided information revealing Joe Biden used an alias as Vice President to email directly with Hunter Biden’s business associate,” said Comer in a statement.

“Just last week, President Biden lied again when confronted with information that he interacted with his family’s business associates. The White House must comply with all of our requests for records from Joe Biden’s time as Vice President and all other Committee requests related to the impeachment inquiry. Anything less is obstruction,” Comer continued.

Biden’s use of private, fake email accounts has presented a new layer to the corruption allegations against him, drawing comparisons to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server for government purposes while she was in office.
