Republican Andy Ogles Unseats County Mayor Charlie Norman in Maury County

Former Americans for Prosperity State Director Andy Ogles was seen as a bit of a long shot when he was nominated by State Representative Shelia Butt (R-Columbia) to run as the Republican Party candidate for County Mayor in Maury County. The nominating convention selected Ogles to carry the party’s banner into the August election and on September 1 he will become County Mayor after ousting incumbent independent Charlie Norman.

Ogles won the general election with 36.5 percent of the vote to Norman’s 29 percent and Shackelford’s 27 percent. In early voting, Ogles led by a mere 58 votes — 3,133 to Norman’s 3,075 and former county commissioner Sonny Shackelford’s 2,800. Election Day turnout gave Ogles his margin of victory.

The 47 year old Ogles, who lives in Culleoka with his wife Monica and their three children, says he will be an activist Mayor who focuses on elevating the profile of the County in order to attract more and better jobs and manage the growth of the county without increasing taxes.

“We are bumping up against our debt limit,” Ogles noted, “so making sure we are frugal and efficient in everything we do while getting taxpayers the biggest bang for their bucks will be a priority.”

“I am truly humbled by this opportunity and grateful to the voters of Maury County,” Ogles added. “I am very excited about the opportunity to get to work.”

Gah. I can’t stand this guy. I could count the ways. Charlie didn’t fight. He should have.
