Tami Sawyer, a leader in the Memphis Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and organizer of the #TakeEmDown901 activists that resulted in removing Confederate statues in the city, won the Democratic primary to represent District 7 on the Shelby County Commission Tuesday, WREG reported.
Sawyer won with 50 percent of the vote, followed by Stephanie Greenwood, who won 36 percent of the vote. Eric Dunn finished in third place with 14 percent of the vote. She will face Republican Samuel Goff, who was unopposed in his primary, in the August general election.
During the August 2017 Confederate statue protest during which protestors surrounded police cars, seven people were arrested. According to Sawyer, BLM posted bail for them.
The BLM movement was launched by co-founders Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, a black Florida teenager. In no short order, BLM became known for protests involving property destruction and violence, oftentimes directed at police.
All three of BLM’s co-founders have been connected in some way with one or more of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization’s (FRSO) groups. FRSO, one of the four largest radical Left organizations in the country, describes itself as “revolutionary socialists in the U.S. dedicated to fighting for a social system where social wealth is not in the hands of a few billionaires, but is controlled by the people.”
In 2015, BLM was promoting a button created for them by “our friends in FRSO.”
BLM co-founder Opal Tometi is the executive director of Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), an organization that was featured during the 2016 National Immigrant Integration Conference hosted by the TN Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC), in Nashville.
Many of the FRSO groups receive funding from the George Soros Open Society Foundations and the Nashville conference included a breakout session featuring a discussion about grants to be awarded from the Soros Foundations.
BLM has aligned itself with anti-Israel groups like Dream Defenders based on an imagined analogy between alleged Israeli oppression of the Palestinians in the Middle East and alleged police violence against blacks in the United States. BLM co-founder Cullors signed onto a 2015 statement proclaiming solidarity with Palestinians and calling on black institutions to support the Boycott, Sanctions & Divestment campaign against Israel, the goal of which is to delegitimize the State of Israel.
So it is no surprise that Tami Sawyer was a featured speaker at Nation of Islam Louis Farrakhan’s Justice or Else Memphis Rally since Farrakhan is one of the most notoriously vocal anti-Semite.
BLM, along with other radical left black groups defended Farrakhan and lobbied against a resolution introduced by a U.S. Congressman condemning Farrakhan for his anti-Semitism.
Sawyer’s candidate bio states that she is currently the Director, Diversity & Cultural Competence with Teach For America Memphis.
Right on Wolf WOman! You are really up to do dae on whats actually going on and you must keep it up! George SOros is trying his bast the change this nations heritage and BLM is getting lalltheir funding from him.
Any type of arrest should disqualify you from any elected position
The Democratic party no is longer classically liberal but is now a socialist/communist led entity and aligns with sharia-following Islamists and illegal aliens as well as anti-Semitic Jew haters. Check out the DNC leaders, Tom Perez and his cohort in crime, Keith (Hakim)Ellison who’s good buddies with Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam and with CAIR who paid for his haj trip to Mecca.
Democrats are active in every social justice and globalist organization you can name, most of which are also supported by the nefarious financier George Soros. You might even say George Soros owns a huge chunk of their party.
If the black people in Memphis elect this woman, then they are electing to stay on the Democrat plantation and remain slaves to people like Soros and Perez.
The plantation is their choice. This is the point that Kanye West tried to make. Only to be shouted down, ridiculed and called “uncle Tom” by members of that same plantation.
I see that nothing has improved in Shelby County. I cringed every time I drive through there on my was to visit family in Texas.
