Klobuchar, Walz Bash Trump for Claiming He’ll Win Minnesota

President Donald Trump recently predicted that the controversy surrounding Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05) will help him win her home state in the 2020 election.

“In 2016 I almost won Minnesota. In 2020, because of America hating anti-Semite Rep. Omar and the fact that Minnesota is having its best economic year ever, I will win the state,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump narrowly lost the state to Hillary Clinton in 2016 by just 1.5 points, but some Minnesota politicians think Trump will lose the state again.

“You’ll never win Minnesota, Donald Trump,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), a 2020 candidate, wrote in response. “I’ll make sure of it. Our state economy is strong because of our great workers and businesses. And the last time I checked, racist words and putting a congresswoman and her family in harm’s way aren’t very popular in our state.”

She then used Trump’s comments to ask for donations to her presidential campaign.

“Donald Trump predicts he’ll win Minnesota in 2020. And he claims credit for the good work of workers and businesses. And he takes another hateful swipe. Want to end this and prove him wrong and show him how we win Minnesota and the Midwest? Donate at amyklobuchar.com,” she wrote on Twitter.

Gov. Tim Walz weighed in on Trump’s chances in Minnesota, predicting the state would reject his “messages of fear and division.”

“Let’s set this straight. In 2018, Minnesotans voted for a vision of One Minnesota—the idea that we are stronger when we are united,” said Walz. “Minnesotans came out in record numbers to reject your messages of fear and division. And in 2020, they will do it again.”
