Minnesota Teacher Claims ‘Capitalist Indoctrination’ Underlies Cell Biology Instruction

Middle-school students learning about the biology of the cell are unknowingly assimilating “capitalist indoctrination,” according to a Minnesota science teacher.

Fox News reports that Mandi Jung, a teacher at Highland Park Middle School in the St. Paul Public Schools district, published a video on the popular short-form video platform TikTok about how “our children are seeped in capitalist indoctrination from, like, the second they’re born.”

Jung claims one “perfect example” of this is how her seventh-grade students take in lessons about cell biology.

The science teacher said it “cracks [her] up” when students answer on an end-of-unit test that they agree with the following statement: “The nucleus is the most important organelle in the cell.”

“Almost every child says, ‘Yes, I agree. Because without a boss, the cell would be in total chaos,’” she said, referring to the mitochondria that serve as the cell’s “powerhouse.”

But Jung believes this to be “capitalist” propaganda because single-celled bacteria don’t have a nucleus, thus making them the “original anarchists.”

“Bacteria don’t have a nucleus, and they are arguably one of the most successful classes of organisms on the planet. Bacteria out here being the original anarchists, right?” she said. “No nucleus, no master. Seize the means of metabolism. I don’t know. It’s funny to me.”

As noted by Fox News, Jung is an active social media user known to express her far-left opinions on Twitter, though her main platform is TikTok, where she boasts over 115,000 followers.

St. Paul Public Schools has previously defended Jung from public criticism about her TikTok posts, telling Alpha News the district “supports the right to free speech.”

In a video posted last year, Jung told a story about how she brought her parents to a gay pride parade and had to explain to her father what “leather daddies” were. One media outlet defined a “leather daddy” as a “burly man who likes to wear leather either as a subset of the [Bondage, Discipline, Domination, Sadism, Masochism] community, a genre of gay sexual expression, or both.”

As a disclaimer of sorts, Jung’s TikTok profile includes a line in her bio reading, “I don’t [represent] my district.”
