Ramaswamy Unveils Plan to ‘Shut Down the FBI’

by Ben Whedon

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on Wednesday unveiled a plan to “shut down the FBI,” an institution that has drawn considerable scrutiny from Republicans amid allegations of political bias at the bureau.

Posted to X, Ramaswamy’s plan outlines three “key problems” affecting the agency. The first, “redundancy & waste,” highlights the 20,000+ employees in either non-essential roles or investigating matters another agency already covers.

The second, “mission creep,” refers to the increasing lack of specialization of bureau agents in the post-9/11 era. The third, “political weaponization,” addresses allegations that the bureau has intervened politically to the detriment of lawmakers it deems harmful to its own interests.

The Republican proposes eliminating the bureau’s “redundant” functions covered by other agencies, slashing non-essential personnel, and imposing more stringent “cabinet-level” oversight on the bureau.

“Bureaucracy breeds corruption,” he declares.
