The 2019 Ohio Star Constitution Bee is open for registration!
If you have a secondary school-level student enrolled in a public or private school, or an accredited homeschool program, they are eligible to participate in this original, one-day event to be held Saturday, April 13, 2019.
This will be the first annual Ohio Star Constitution Bee, and it will be held one week after the third annual Tennessee Star Constitution Bee.
The first Tennessee Star Constitution Bee was held in 2017, and was held at Sycamore High School of Cheatham County Schools in Pleasant View, Tennessee, and the second was held in 2018 at the Williamson County Administration Building in Franklin, Tennessee.
The Ohio Star is currently accepting bids from local high schools and organizations to host the 2019 Ohio Star Star Constitution Bee.
One month later, in May 2018, Star News Digital Media, Inc., the parent corporation of The Ohio Star, will host the first annual Star News National Constitution Bee in Nashville, where the top finishers in The Ohio Star Constitution Bee join top finishers from Star News Constitution Bees in other states for the national championship.
More details will be posted here as they are made available.
The student who wins the Grand Prize Championship as the top Constitution secondary school student in the state of Ohio at the April 13 Ohio Star Constitution Bee will receive an all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C, along with a parent.
“It is vital that we rediscover the importance of our Constitution, and pass it along to the next generation,” J.C. Bowman, executive director of Professional Educators of Tennessee, which provides scholarships each year to the winner of The Tennessee Star Constitution Bee told The Star.
“We think a Constitution Bee is an important step to encourage that effort. The preservation of our liberties is an ongoing battle, something our Founders understood,” Bowman said.
The Bee is designed to focus on student knowledge of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in the same way as the National Spelling Bee and the National Geography Bee.
All confirmed contestants will receive – at no charge – a copy of the pilot project edition of the textbook based on the groundbreaking Constitution Series, The Star News Guide to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights for Secondary School Students.
In addition to the Grand Prize winning champion, the top performing student at each grade level (8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th) will receive a prize package and be featured in profiles at The Ohio Star.
Judges will include local teachers, attorneys, and editors from The Ohio Star.
