Illinois State Rep. Chris Miller Likens Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Signing of Bills Supporting Illegal Aliens to Treason, Rebellion Against U.S.

Illinois State Rep. Chris Miller (R-IL-110) said that Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s signing of two immigration laws is a “travesty” and likened it to rebellion against the U.S., according to a story by East Central Reporter.

The story is available here.

“One of the first things that occurs to me is do we have federal immigration laws, and the answer to that is we do,” Miller told the East Central Reporter. “I know that I stood and watched J.B. Pritzker, along with my other colleagues, take the oath of office where we swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the Illinois Constitution, and I’m not sure where the act of treason comes in. To me, when you’re in open rebellion against the laws of the United States of America, I find that to be a real problem.”

Gov. Pritzker, who is a Democrat, signed the bills in July, WGNTV said. One law extends the time from one year to two years a child can have a short-term guardian if their parents are detained or deported. The other law helps young immigrants seeking special visas as victims of abuse or neglect. It authorizes courts to move forward on and grant a petition for special immigrant juvenile status.

Miller, from Oakland, criticized efforts by elected officials who tell law enforcement to not cooperate with efforts by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, The Center Square said. Elected officials cannot choose which laws to ignore. He also said illegal immigration hurts taxpayers as well as legal immigrants.

Miller’s comments came after Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot gave illegal aliens tips on how to evade capture by ICE agents. Springfield’s mayor told Springfield police to not cooperate with ICE agents, too.
