Ellison Accuser Considers ‘Walking Away’ From Democratic Party

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN-05) accuser Karen Monahan suggested over the weekend that she will join the growing number of frustrated liberal voters in “walking away” from the Democratic Party.

Monahan, who claims she has been smeared and threatened since coming forward with her allegations, shared a video on Twitter published by a fellow Democrat who decided to leave the party.

“Liberalism has been coopted and absorbed by the very characteristics it claims to fight against,” YouTuber and founder of the “#WalkAway Campaign” Brandon Straka says in the video. “In an effort to gain voters and maintain power, the Democratic Party that I once loved has joined forces with the extremist left.”

Monahan shared the video to her Twitter, saying that “much of what [Straka] mentioned is exactly what’s happening to me right now.”

“I think being an independent voter works for me. I don’t want to be part of group think anymore,” she wrote. She clarified that while she doesn’t “support the Republicans’ agenda,” she “never expected what has happened from the party I have worked for since I was 21.”

Shortly after sharing the video, Monahan alleged that she has been “smeared, bullied,” and “lied about” throughout the process, including by Ellison’s family members, one of whom apparently called her a “gold digger hooked on popularity.”

“It’s really starting to look like you only care about you and what you can get out of this situation that has no evidence,” Zachary L. Metoyer Sr. allegedly wrote to Monahan, according to screenshots she produced. “From community service to self serving bottom feeder!”

Monahan proceeded to ask Ellison to “please ask your family members to stop victim shaming and harassing me,” saying that this “has been about the fourth family member” to do so.

As The Minnesota Sun previously reported, Monahan has been appearing more frequently on local and national television programs to discuss her experiences, including Fox News, WCCO, and KSTP, but is taking flak for speaking with conservative-leaning reporters.
